Solids-Only Tote Challenge-Retro Inspired Tote Bag

I've just completed my tote bag for the Solids-Only tote Challenge hosted by Keren of Sew la Vie and Rikka from Ricochet and Away and I have to say, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.  

I had idea after idea, but nothing really stuck until I decided to make something that reflected my childhood.

I gathered a few pictures of me, my older sister, my younger brother, my cousins, and my parents to help me out a little.

Brown and cream were the two colors that came to mind when I started brainstorming ideas for this bag.  I wanted to add a little something extra to it so that's where the bow came in.  The bow is optional, which is nice because I can get two different looks out of it, and the wooden button just adds to the whole retro vibe.

I'm Verrrry happy with the way it turned out!  I'm going to hold on to this pattern and add a few more details to it- like maybe a gusset for the bottom and the sides of the bag, and some inner pockets.  I see endless possibilities with this tote bag!  I'm already thinking about a red one?

Oh yeah! and did you see that bag my mom is carrying?  I'm thinking about recreating that bag some how.  I haven't quite made up my mind with what I want to do with it, but all I know is I love it!
