Solids-Only Tote Challenge-Retro Inspired Tote Bag

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

I've just completed my tote bag for the Solids-Only tote Challenge hosted by Keren of Sew la Vie and Rikka from Ricochet and Away and I have to say, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

I had idea after idea, but nothing really stuck until I decided to make something that reflected my childhood.

I gathered a few pictures of me, my older sister, my younger brother, my cousins, and my parents to help me out a little.

Brown and cream were the two colors that came to mind when I started brainstorming ideas for this bag.  I wanted to add a little something extra to it so that's where the bow came in.  The bow is optional, which is nice because I can get two different looks out of it, and the wooden button just adds to the whole retro vibe.

I'm Verrrry happy with the way it turned out!  I'm going to hold on to this pattern and add a few more details to it- like maybe a gusset for the bottom and the sides of the bag, and some inner pockets.  I see endless possibilities with this tote bag!  I'm already thinking about a red one?

Anywho,  you should go check out the rest of the tote bags that were entered into the solids-only challenge, everyone did a great awesome job!

Oh yeah! and did you see that bag my mom is carrying?  I'm thinking about recreating that bag some how.  I haven't quite made up my mind with what I want to do with it, but all I know is I love it!

Thanks for stopping by : - )

  4. I love this bag. I don't know where to start... The BOW I think is my favorite aspect of this tote. I love the retro white piping/border. It makes the bag more interesting. The wooden button is totally retro and gives a warm feeling like home and family. It is totally in tune with the style and the time of the photos of your family from the past. I LOVE your mom's bag! What a great project it would be to recreate it!!! Amazing job!!!!!! :-)

  5. Ohh, it looks wonderful! <3 I love the button and the oversized bow!
