Art Gallery 003: Folk Art

Monday, April 9, 2012

Folk Art- encompasses art produced from an indigenous culture or by peasants or other laboring tradespeople.  In contrast to fine art, folk art is primarily utilitarian and decorative rather than purely aesthetic.  The nature of folk art is specific to its particular culture.

I'm such a huge fan of folk art, are you?  Well, you don't have to be a huge fan but do you like folk art?  I think the reason why I'm so drawn to it (no pun intended) is because it immediately sends my mind into daydream mode and it relaxes me.  I can completely get lost in these types of pictures.   What type of art sends you into daydream mode?

  5. Hello Tori.

Thank you very much for including my folk pieces in your lovely collection here.

I agree that a big part of folk arts charm is that is calms us and people do allow their imagination to open up and often individuals seem to find something that triggers a memory for them in their life.

A nice blog to wake up to on my birthday! =)

    Kind regards!

  6. You're right that this artwork makes you daydream. They are all very soothing. I kept thinking this artwork would be great for a children's book. My mind was already making up little stories. Travel photography also sends me into daydream mode.

  7. I didn't even know I was a fan of folk art until now! This definitely took me back to fairytale land, I felt like I was reading through a children's book as I was scrolling down (ah, the good old days...). I'm not sure what other kinds of art send me into daydream mode - maybe photographs of food... but maybe that's just because I love eating so much....

    thanks for sharing!!
